I ordered some teflon strips for inlaying shell purfling from one of the usual suppliers and in checking the dimensions I see that it is .060" on one dimension and the cut dimension varies from .050" to barely .060" The standard shell strip for this purpose is .063" but varies up to about .065". Is this supposed to fit? What gives? Fortunately I haven't installed the teflon strips yet. Any ideas? |

I think I'd call the supplier and talk to them about your findings. If there is a quality control problem, they just might appreciate hearing about it. Who knows, they might send you something you could use. |

John...This material stretches and in so doing will reduce the cross-sectional dimension. You might want to warm it up a bit in a 200* oven for a few minutes to see if it stress relieves and comes back to a more uniform dimension. Just a thought. |

The last time I bought these they were slightly oversized so I could scrape them to the size I wanted but the sut dimension was still all over in thickness. I'm sure this stuff is not the easiest to cut accurately but it seems to me it should be usable. I'll report my findings to them. I decided to go ahead and use them though. Since I cut my own shell strips I can just cut some that are .060" instead of .063" if the ones I already have don't fit. Thanks for the input. |
